Jenis-jenis olive & kegunaannya

Olive oil atau lebih dikenali sebagai minyak zaiton oleh orang melayu sangat kaya dengan omega-3, monounsaturated fatty asid & antioxidant. Terdapat beberapa jenis olive oil yang terdapat di pasaran , yang membezakan bagi setiap jenis ialah bergantung kepada khasiat yang terkandung di dalamnya, rasa, bau, cara penghasilan, pemprocessan & pembungkusan selain harganya yang turut berbeza.

Secara umumnya terdapat 3 jenis olive oil di pasaran iaitu:

  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Virgin olive oil
  • Pure olive oil.
Namun terdapat lagi 3 jenis olive oil yang jarang kita jumpa iaitu:
  • Refined olive oil
  • Olive pomace oil
  • Lite or Light olive oil

Extra virgin olive oil
The highest quality olive oil yang turut dikenali sebagai queen of oil yang mempunyai acidity level <1% dan kaya dengan antioxidant.Lebih mahal & kaya dengan nutrition. Extra virgin olive oil is best use in salad dressing. 

Virgin Olive oil.
Mempunyai acidity level ~2.0%. Virgin olive oil good for cooking purpose, mainly for saute & baking and can be use for salad dressing as well. Its good for body & hair massage too.

Pure olive oil.
Simple olive oil, ia adalah campuran refined olive oil & extra virgin olive oil. Mempunyai acidity level around 2.0% but have low nutrition value compared with extra virgin olive oil. Good for heavy duty cooking but not good for salad since lack of taste & aroma.

Refined olive oil.
Obtain by refined virgin olive oil by eliminate acidity level. Its good for heavy duty cooking and not good for salad dressing.

Olive pomace oil.
Very similar to pure olive oil but carries non nutrition value. Its good for heavy duty cooking.

Lite or Light olive oil.
Low in calori & low grade of olive oil. Low in nutrition, aroma, taste & smell. Suitable for cooking & baking.
